Introduction

OBJECTIVE OF ESTABLISHING THE CENTER

The Center was established in the light of effective sharing of precious Instruments facilitated in National Chiao-Tung University (NCTU) acquired by the funding of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). Thereby, it is hoped that the center will benefit the consorting universities and research institutes in strengthening the academic research and achieving outstanding status.

BACKGROUND HISTORY

Before December of 1998 the Center of Precious Instruments of NCTU was called "Hsin-Chu Semiconductor Precious Instrument Center" operated by the Nano Facility Center, one of the several centers under the administration of MOST. In December of 1998 the Center changed to the present name and became a subordinating unit to the Office of Research and Development of NCTU.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION AND SERVICE

The Center is divided into five instrumentation groups, in total of 24 sets of precious instruments, according to the domain of applications and research fields of users. There are 12 precious instruments reserved for the Nano Facility Center, 4 for the Chemistry field, 4 for Physics field , 3 for Material Science field, and 1 for Biological Science field.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

(1) Managing Center's daily operations.
(2) Carrying out the directives from the Dean of R&D.
(3)Controlling MOST precious instrumentation budget and ad hoc funding from the Ministry of Education Aiming for the Top University and Elite Research Center Development Plan (MOE ATU plan), acquisitioning new precious instruments, presenting fund proposals and reporting projects' conclusion results to MOST and MOE.
(4) Managing and maintaining effective operation of the precious instruments facilities.
(5) Evaluating and reviewing of the Center's technicians.
(6)Reviewing service target goals, conducting annual user satisfaction survey, and tracking user feedback so as to improve the quality of the Center's service.
